Track 2
201 - Myofascial Release for Organic Dysfunction
Jos Dorrestein PT, MHS
This technique, also called "Bindegewebsmassage" in Europe, is commonly taught in physical therapy programs there. Here in the US, it is referred to as Reflexzone Therapy. The method treats patients with imbalances of the autonomous nervous system, caused by everyday stress and trauma and resulting in a variety of conditions whereby the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems has been disturbed. The techniques involve strokes that pull and stretch the tissues and their effectiveness is based on a viscerocutaneous reflex. This session will include a presentation on the neurophysiological aspects as well as clinical applications.
