306 - Are You Boomer Ready? Current Rehab Trends
John O'Halloran MSPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS, Cert MDT
The World Health Organization has coined the years 2000 - 2010 the "Bone and Joint Decade." The question for us as clinicians: Are we ready to provide current and progressive rehabilitation for the active joint replacement population? Joint replacement surgery is on the rise and the patient that is having his or her joint replaced is a little bit different than the traditional THA, TKA and TSA patient. The "Baby Boomer" who is having a joint replaced has a higher expectation to return to athletic activity. This has rehab implications not just for the sports medicine clinician who will see the patient in the outpatient clinic but for the home health therapist as well. Understanding the modern technology and being able to communicate that to patients is extremely important to the total care of the patient.
