Track 2
202 - Myofascial Release
Theresa Schmidt DPT, MS, OCS, LMT, CEAS, Chy, DD
Myofascial Release: Clinical Applications presents management of muscular and connective tissue restrictions which influence mobility and function. Abnormal tension in the myofascial structures may alter biomechanical efficiency and contribute to compensatory and painful movement patterns. MFR helps to restore mobility of restricted muscles and fascia, promoting improved biomechanics and functional mobility in addition to reducing pain. This class will demonstrate techniques and indicate how MFR can be used as part of a plan of care to treat myofascial pain, range of motion impairments, fibromyalgia and other clinical conditions. MFR is an evidence-based intervention which achieves objective, functional results.
Objectives for Session 202: 1. Outline a basic myofascial mobility evaluation to identify skin and muscle motion restrictions 2. Discuss the anatomy and function of myofascia and list indications and contraindications for myofascial release 3. Examine selected myofascial release techniques listed to improve mobility of restricted tissue
