Speaker's Bio Testimonials

Resistant/burned-out parents create a difficult dilemma for most professionals. Oftentimes a professional is entering into the family system when the parents have already reached the state of being burned out, resistant, angry, hostile and unmotivated. If this occurs, a great deal of time and energy is wasted on attempting to motivate the parent in participating in the services that have been offered or mandated. In these situations there is minimal progress because of significant triangulation, manipulation and overt sabotaging by the parents.

This one-day seminar will examine the structure of the many systems that will lead to parent burnout and explore how to engage, encourage, empower and educate parents so they no longer feel helpless and hopeless in their situations. Professionals attending this seminar will learn and develop an empathic understanding of the parent's oppositions to treatment including historical, intergenerational, personality traits and cultural differences. We will explore the different parenting styles as well as the child's reaction to stress and conflict. Most importantly, attendees will leave with hands-on ideas, handouts and treatment tools to add to your rapport and assist these desperate parents. Both parents and professionals will leave with specific ideas and tools to deal with children's behaviors in the home, school and clinic.
