Dialectical Behavior Therapy has been well-documented in studies at universities and research centers as being a highly effective treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. However, clinicians are often surprised to find that translating DBT for use in frontline clinical settings such as mental health centers, residential programs, hospitals, clinics, schools and private practice can be surprisingly challenging.

Because most clinicians do not have the time, resources or data to determine how DBT needs to be adjusted in order to work well in their particular setting, this seminar will present the most effective ways of adopting, adapting and tailoring DBT to the realities of frontline clinical work. This seminar is appropriate to all levels of social service professionals, as clinicians who are new to DBT will learn its approach and methods, and clinicians familiar with DBT will learn innovative ways to alter DBT for maximum effectiveness in their setting and for their patient population.

Gregory W. Lester, Ph. D., is a clinical and consulting Psychologist with practices in Texas and Colorado. He is a member of the Graduate Faculty of the University of St. Thomas and is the senior consultant with the Improvement Research Group. Dr. Lester holds membership in the American Psychological Association, the Colorado, Texas and Houston Psychological associations, the Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal and Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Lester's work has been widely published and has appeared in journals including The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Western Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Marriage and Family Therapy, The Journal of Behavioral Therapy and Restaurant Hospitality. He has written seven books, including Power with People: How to Handle Just About Anyone, which is currently in its seventh printing. Dr. Lester specializes in the phenomenon of personality disorders. He has extensively researched, written and presented on the topic, and has trained more professionals on personality disorders than any other individual in the world. He is a frequent speaker about personality disorders at national conferences and is an ongoing consultant to several hospital and health care companies and social service agencies.
