Meet Our Special Educator of the Month, Psychologist Amber H.

At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This month, we’re spotlighting an amazing School Psychologist, Amber H.

Here’s why Amber decided to become a psychologist, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for psychologists just embarking on their careers.

Why did you become a school psychologist?

I became a school psychologist to have a positive impact on students, their families, and the overall school environment. As a young child growing up, I appreciated the guidance and mentoring I received. Based on my personal experience I knew I wanted to help children achieve and grow both academically and behaviorally. I have always had a passion for providing quality mental health services to underserved populations and to improve the level of achievement and school success. Today my goal still centers on children and providing quality mental health services, comprehensive psycho-educational assessments, and recommendations to help them succeed and become productive adults.

What do you like about Cross Country Education?

My employment as a school psychologist with Cross Country Education has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to work with diverse groups of students, school personnel and parents. Through working at CCE, I have been able to complete detailed and complex assessments in response to a variety of concerns. I appreciate the work-life balance that working for CCE allows. I value the support of my lead, the CCE team, and the professional resources that are available to assist me in performing my job.

What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?

I appreciate strong communication between CCE and the schools. It helps to make the transition of taking on new assessments and cases a seamless process. The staff at schools that I have had the opportunity to work with have been welcoming and supportive. I truly enjoy working with the students, staff, and parents.

What kind of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

One of the most important pieces of advice that I would give to someone starting out in my field is the importance of being flexible and understanding different perspectives and viewpoints. In this field there is always change and you must be able to adapt quickly. In addition, you also must work with different people who may have differing views. Another piece of advice that I would give is that strong communication skills are necessary in this field. We are communicating with students, staff and parents on a daily basis, and we have to ensure that we are communicating information clearly and effectively to all parties involved.
