Meet Our Educator of the Month, Jason T.

Why did you become a Substitute Teacher?

I became a sub through the suggestion of my brother, who noticed a newspaper article about substitute teachers being much needed during the pandemic.

What do you like about Cross Country Education?

I love the flexibility of CCE. I can choose long-term or day-to-day sub assignments.

What have you liked about your experience working at schools with Cross Country Education?

I feel fortunate that CCE caters to South LA schools because I get to learn from and understand the culture of the youth here.

What kind of advice would you give to those starting out in your field?

My advice is that if you want to experience the daily grind of a teacher and find out if that is your career calling, and you're not sure, try becoming a long-term sub. This will allow you to build rapport and relationships with students and staff to get a feel for the job. For me, after long-term substitute teaching for about a year, I decided to officially get my teaching credential to teach music, the subject that I went to school for.
