At Cross Country Education we have the best of the best from across the nation impacting the lives of students in the schools they serve every day. We take great pride in their shared passion for education, and we love passing along their words of wisdom, sage advice for those embarking on their careers, and great insight into the rewarding field of education.
This week, we celebrate Behavior Intervention Developer (BID) Savannah Phelan. Savannah took some time to explain what has motivated her to become a BID and to offer advice for those just starting out.
Why did you become a behavior intervention developer?
When I finished college, I moved to Los Angeles to work in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and fell in love with the field. What started out as a summer job quickly became a passion, and once I applied for my master’s degree, I was hooked!
What do you like about Cross Country Education?
I love that Cross Country Education is able to provide services to support special education from every angle. It really works well to create a unified team.
What have you liked about your experience working at schools through Cross Country Education?
The personnel at the schools I work with are so warm and welcoming! Returning to the same school sites year after year really helps to develop strong relationships.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?
The first step is to work with the population, take the plunge and get into special education any way you can to get some experience and figure out how things work in the field. There are many different ways to modify behavior, so try a few different environments to see what suits you best.
Thank you, Savannah, for all you do! We are grateful to have you as a part of the Cross Country Education team!
