We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This time, we’re spotlighting one of our outstanding substitute teachers, Jacqueline M.
Here’s why Jacqueline decided to become a substitute teacher, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for subs just embarking on their careers.
1. Why did you become a Substitute Teacher?
I became a substitute teacher because of my love for working with students, especially during a time when challenges are more prevalent. It brings me joy to be able to provide students with individual academic support, instruction and social/emotional support.
2. What do you like about Cross Country Education?
I like that Cross Country has a team of people ready to answer questions and provide training and assistance when needed.
3. What have you liked about your experience working at schools with Cross Country Education?
My favorite aspect about my experience working with Cross Country Schools is getting to meet brilliant students, administrators, counselors and staff. Everyone is welcoming!
4. What kind of advice would you give to those starting out in your field?
Some advice for those starting out in the field includes: Be gentle and flexible with yourself and students when needed. Patience and kindness go a long way. Reflect on a daily basis to make sure your lessons are student centered. Lastly, practice self-care (take your well-earned lunches and breaks) as it is easy to lose track of yourself when pouring your heart into teaching.
