At Cross Country Education we have the best of the best from across the nation impacting the lives of students in the schools they serve every day. We take great pride in their shared passion for education, and we love passing along their words of wisdom, sage advice for those embarking on their careers, and great insight into the rewarding field of education.
This week, we celebrate Eun Chung, Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). Eun took some time to explain what has motivated her to become a school-based MFT and to offer advice for those just starting out.
Why did you become an MFT?
I have always wanted to work with kids. Once I got into counseling, I quickly realized that one of the most effective ways to work with children is to work with the whole family. This drew me to marriage and family therapy, which at its core, I believe, is all about promoting healthy relationships and helping kids to grow up to be healthy adults.
What do you like about Cross Country Education?
I love that I can be independent in my work AND be part of a team at the same time. The support that I receive from the counseling department as well as from the office allows me to fully focus on what I do best and love doing.
What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?
I love that every school is so different! It has been such a rich experience for me as a counselor to work with a very diverse student population (academically, socioeconomically, culturally). Every school that I get to experience provides me with opportunities that help me grow not only as a professional but as a person.
What kind of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?
I believe the most powerful and meaningful counseling flows out of who you are. So, I would encourage new counselors to keep on becoming the person that you are teaching your students to be. Take time to do some personal reflection as you go. Adjust. And repeat!
Thank you, Eun, for all you do! We are grateful to have you as a part of the Cross Country Education team!
