April is OT Month, and We’re Here to Brag!
April is Occupational Therapy Month, the perfect opportunity for us to brag on a few school occupational therapy professionals we love! We’re starting this month off by spotlighting Dahliena, Koury, and Priscilla.
Dahliena C. (OT) is the supervising occupational therapist for Koury S. (COTA) and Priscilla S. (COTA). In her role, Dahliena provides guidance on the delivery of occupational therapy programs that help students develop, regain, or maintain their ability to perform daily activities in school. She also conducts OT assessments to identify needs and make recommendations for students' OT services. We’re grateful for her dedication to day-to-day problem-solving to facilitate OT services for students and for her support of her occupational therapy team.
In his role as a certified occupational therapy assistant, Koury S. helps ensure students have the tools they need to learn. For example, recently, Koury communicated with the school and advocated for a student’s ability to access a desk at home due to limited space. Koury was able to arrange for the school to provide a school desk for the student. The parents picked it up and brought it home. Now, the student has a desk at home (just for him) so he can do his schoolwork. Kudos, Koury, for your devotion to your kids.
Recently, Priscilla S. demonstrated how COTAs help kids with social and emotional learning. She had significant breakthroughs with a student who typically exhibits low self-esteem. Priscilla has helped the student become more positive and confident during sessions. His mom has noticed a difference. She has praised Priscilla for the wonderful work she does with him and is impressed by the work he completes during their session.
These three OT superstars are shining examples of what committed, passionate occupational therapy professionals can do to enhance the lives of children and families daily. Thanks for your commitment, Dahliena, Koury, and Priscilla!
About OT Month
Occupational Therapy Month is recognized each April and began in 1980. It is a time to celebrate the work of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, who “are part of a vitally important profession that helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. [Their] holistic and customized approach to evaluations, interventions, and outcomes help a child with disabilities participate in school and in social situations, assist a person recovering from injuries to regain skills, aid an older adult to stay as independent as possible, and offer the specialized support and services to people of all ages and in all circumstances that only occupational therapy can provide.” AOTA.org
