Meet Liezel and Jennifer, Two Amazing School Nurses

At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation who are dedicated to improving kids' lives every day! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This time, we’re spotlighting two outstanding school nurses, Liezel and Jennifer!

Here, Liezel and Jennifer share why they decided to become school nurses, what they enjoy most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice they have for school nurses just embarking on their careers.

School Nurse Liezel Z.

Why did you become a school nurse?

I love working with children and community health. School nursing was a perfect combination of the two fields. The most rewarding aspect is helping out families.

What do you like about working as a school nurse with Cross Country Education?

The schedule is flexible, and the team is supportive.

What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?

The school staff are also flexible and are receptive to most suggestions. It has been enjoyable that each school has a unique group of students.

What advice would you give to someone starting out as a school nurse?

Do not be afraid to ask questions to your lead or nursing team. We are here to support you so that you can grow on your own.

School Nurse Jennifer B.

Why did you become a school nurse?

I became a school nurse because I love working with children and helping them be as healthy as possible.

What do you like about working as a school nurse with Cross Country Education?

I like the collaboration and teamwork involved in providing care for our students. I enjoy working with my fellow nurses who often provide feedback or input on a complex case and whose opinions I value. I am grateful for the autonomy and flexibility that working with Cross Country provides.

What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?

I enjoy the fact that I get to visit various schools and meet new people every day. I also look forward to the familiar faces of students and staff from previous visits.

What advice would you give to someone starting out as a school nurse?

To embrace the various types of students that we see. To always look for opportunities to learn and be open and flexible. Lastly, even the most difficult student/staff/coworker appreciates kindness and compassion. I have found that a little kindness every day goes a long way!
