Meet Jack S., Substitute Teacher

At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation who are dedicated to improving kids' lives every day! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This time, we’re spotlighting one of our outstanding substitute teachers, Jack S.

Here’s why Jack decided to become a substitute teacher, what he enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice he has for subs just embarking on their careers.

Why did you become a substitute teacher?

Having been a classroom teacher for many years, I was looking for a new challenge. I discovered that I still enjoyed inspiring children to become lifelong learners. So, as a former teacher, I understood that becoming a substitute teacher would satisfy both of my ambitions.

What do you like about Cross Country Education?

Cross Country Education is a good fit for me. There is professional support, a flexible work schedule and the ability to visit different schools with various grade levels. There are both daily and long-term assignments. Most importantly, schools and teachers may request specific substitutes.

What have you liked about your experience working at schools with Cross Country Education?

Having worked with Cross Country Education for over six years, I have fostered an excellent relationship with many schools, teachers and students.

What advice would you give to those starting out as a substitute teacher?

For those just starting out, don't be afraid to ask questions. The Cross Country Education team is very knowledgeable. When at a school, you will find the teachers are very helpful.
